Did you know?
There are between
400 million and 800 million
Internet users worldwide.
Your website gives 24 hour access to your consumers, clients, staff, and managers. In fact all stakeholders in your organisation benefit from your credible web presence.
Professionally developed sites are obvious and easy to pick out. These sites all demonstrate conceptual continuity throughout.
They are accessible, easy to use, and reward the visitor with a positive and useful experience or service.
Both art and design have interested me for my whole life. Since the late '90's I've especially been involved in website design.
Please remember that anytime you like you can see my portfolio with 'live' web designs and website development examples.
Website Design & Development to Communicate
Website design and web development are basically about gathering information and people together and enabling and supporting communication.
Visitors to your website want to hear what you have to say!
There is no substitute for having a decent body of content AND making that content easy to access.
All websites (including yours) should be accessible and easy to use.
Forming a relationship between you (the site owner) and your visitor.
Through your website you communicate;
- your ideas
- your messages
- opportunities
- products
- services
If your website is communicating effectively it will prompt your visitors to have some interaction.
This interaction might be as simple as their bookmarking the site to re-visit, or adding their name to a newsletter mailing list.
Deeper interaction might involve them downloading a file, watching a video, playing a game, or making a purchase from your e-commerce store.
All websites offer the facility to track and monitor their visitor statistics.
Website design process & tools
Every website starts as an idea!
Then gets 'mapped out', 'planned' and 'story-boarded' on paper before going onto the computer.
Sites are almost always most effective when envisioned first, then planned out and then rolled out (developed or produced) on the PC or Mac.
In my web design work I use Fireworks, Flash, Word and Dreamweaver. Everything is tested on multiple operating systems and different web browsers including, Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer.
Usually I recommend Adobe Contribute for most site editing and updating purposes. It's so quick and easy to learn and use. Clients love it.
For very large sites that require constant updating I might recommend an open source CMS (Content Management System) like Drupal, PHPwebsite, Wordpress or possibly Mambo. CMSMadeSimple is also excellent.
These are all PHP based content management systems which amount to powerful, customisable web applications.
